Our Story

Who are Matt and Lydia?

Well, hopefully, none of you asked that question. Most of you know both of us, plus our ever-growing family (just animals right now!) But for those of you who may only know one of us, here are 10 things about us that describe who we are, our story, and why the heck we decided to do the crazy thing (jk) and get married.

1. Both of us are incredible dorks. Case in point, we tried to have our engagement shoot at a dinosaur theme park – talk to our photographer to get the full scoop on why that didn’t work out 🤣

2. We’re both big nerds – not the same as dorks. We both enjoy video games, going to the renaissance festival, and are currently binge-watching Doctor Who.

3. We love our furry friends! Currently, we have only (I know) 2 cats and 2 horses. We hope to expand soon with a dog and/or another cat.

4. We love traveling and exploring adventurous places! We’ve had amazing trips to Barbados, Iceland, and most recently (see below) the Dominican Republic! We’ve done snowmobiling on a glacier and scuba diving near a shipwreck. We can’t wait until our next adventure!

5. We met online – OkayCupid to be exact. Don’t knock it ’til you try it!

6. It’s never a dull moment in our household – whether it is Matt lighting something on fire creating something in the kitchen or his workshop, or Lydia livening things up with spontaneous puns!

7. Hobbies: Matt LOVES cooking – meat is his specialty. Lydia pretty much knew she loved him when she first had his pulled pork.

8. Lydia’s horses are her main hobby. She has been riding most of her life and is enjoying working with her two large, four-legged children.

9. Our engagement in Punta Cana was seriously romantic. Picture this: lounging on the beach, watching the sunset over the water while listening to soft, acoustic music, sipping on mojitos. Then Matt took Lydia’s hand, who was actually mildly confused because it seemed like there was something in his hand. Turns out it was a ring – go figure. Matt looked over at Lydia, smiled, and said, “Hey, wanna get married?”

10. We absolutely cannot wait to start our life together and to celebrate all the milestones that are to come.
